Dundee, 10th October 2016 – Outplay Entertainment announce the milestone of reaching over 50 million players worldwide, making it one of the most successful studios to emerge from the UK in recent years. The Dundee, Scotland-based independent mobile gaming studio is now the largest in the UK and one of the largest in Europe with over 150 staff, after being formed in 2010 by brothers Richard and Douglas Hare. The founders launched the studio following their return to the UK following a successful period in the US where they co-founded industry renowned console developers The Collective and Foundation 9 Entertainment.
The studio is now emerging as a major player in the world of mobile gaming, having recently been shortlisted for three TIGA awards as well as Growth Champion of the Year for the 2016 Growth Investor Awards. Recent successes including Bubble Genius and Crafty Candy, with the team now gearing up for the release of a new, as yet unannounced title, in November.
Over the years, Scotland and especially Dundee, has been a powerhouse driving the UK games industry, with a number of global leaders emanating from this part of the world. The growth of the creative industries in Scotland has been exceptional in recent years, with triple digit growth reported across the industry, we now see Outplay Entertainment take the mantle of largest independent mobile games developer in the UK.
Dundee was the logical choice for the founding brothers, due to the wealth of local talent and the University of Abertay, the city is a worldwide hub of video game expertise.
